Alpine-type serpentinites from the Auckland Province—II. North Auckland serpentinites

Abstract
Eighty discrete lopolithic-shaped bodies of serpentinite ranging from 350 m3 to 24 000 m8 in size are found in North Auckland, south of Whangarei and east of Hatherton and Sibson's (1970) junction anomaly, within the Onerahi Chaos-breccia Formation. The bodies are confined to valley floors or low on the flanks of hills. Emplacement of the Chaos-breccia as an olistostrome sediment probably took place in Waitakian-Otaian times from the north-west as a result of a west-east thrust movement.
