The rate of production of Plasmodium falciparum gametocytes during natural infections

Abstract
Using venous blood obtained from 127 unselected subjects (aged four months to nine years), the rate of production of gametocytes of Plasmodium falciparum was studied. Infections with mature gameetocytes in the peripheral blood showed a greater proportion of infections producing immature gametocytes and a higher conversion rate than did infections without mature gametocytes in the peripheral blood.
