The Role of Hybridization and Resonance in Molecular Structure

Abstract

It is shown that hybridization of the end‐atoms in multiple‐bonded molecules, as well as in single‐bonded ones, is necessary for the understanding of the chemical bond properties. Resonance effects seem to play a minor role, except for conjugated systems.
