Inelastic Scattering from and (p, α) Reactions of the Copper Isotopes

Abstract

The excited states of ${\mathrm{Cu}}^{63}$, ${\mathrm{Cu}}^{65}$, ${\mathrm{Ni}}^{60}$, and ${\mathrm{Ni}}^{62}$ have been investigated through studies of the proton and alpha-particle groups emitted from isotopically enriched targets of copper. A 6.51-Mev proton beam from an electrostatic accelerator and a high-resolution magnetic spectrograph were used in the investigation. The regions of excitation studied were from the ground state to 3.5 Mev in the case of ${\mathrm{Cu}}^{63}$, 3.1 Mev for ${\mathrm{Cu}}^{65}$, 3.7 Mev for ${\mathrm{Ni}}^{60}$, and 3.5 Mev for ${\mathrm{Ni}}^{62}$. The $Q$ value for the ${\mathrm{Cu}}^{63}(p, \alpha ){\mathrm{Ni}}^{60}$ reaction is 3.753±0.008 Mev and for the ${\mathrm{Cu}}^{65}(p, \alpha ){\mathrm{Ni}}^{62}$ reaction, 4.341±0.008 Mev.
