Abstract
Ce and Ce have been considered to have tetravalent Ce because of their superconductivity, collapsed volume, and lack of magnetic moments. Resonant photoemission studies show these compounds to be mixed valent, suggesting the need to reexamine the mechanism of their superconductivity.
