Effect of Spray Residues on Scale Insect Populations

Abstract
Sulfur sprays in combination with adhesive materials when used on Parson Brown orange trees to control the citrus rust mite, Phyllcoptes oleivorus, increased infestations of the purple scale, Lepidosaphes beckii and the Florida red scale, Chrysomphahus aonidum. Scale infestations were heaviest on trees showing the most residue. Scale infestation records on fruit produced the season following spray applications showed residues increased scale populations.
