Tubular Reabsorption of Phosphate in Primary Hyperparathyroidism—Before and After Administration of Parathyroid Hormone

Abstract
Using the ratio of the clearance of phosphate to the clearance of creatinine, the authors determined the tubular reabsorption of phosphate (TRP) of 20 individuals before and after administration of parathyroid hormone. Patients with primary hyperparathyroidism demonstrated relative resistance to the effect of exogenous parathyroid hormone, as measured by the TRP. Normal patients and those with hypercalcemia from various causes showed a consistently decreased TRP after administration of parathyroid extract.
