Eclampsia Superimposed on Renal Scleroderma: A Rare Cause of Maternal and Fetal Mortality

Abstract

An eclamptic-like syndrome occurring in a young female with severe progressive systemic scleroderma, leading to maternal and fetal death, is described. The similarity between eclampsia and the acute fulminant form of renal scleroderma is stressed. There is a great risk to the mother and fetus if pregnancy is undertaken when the generalized form of the disease is present, particularly if the disease progresses during pregnancy.
