Abstract
A perturbation expansion about the atomic limit in powers of the interaction between atoms is developed and a graphical analysis of the terms of the series is described. The manner in which the series degenerates in the band theory limit is discussed and a rule for generating approximations valid in both the atomic and band theory limits is given and applied to discuss the electron propagator. Keywords
