Amoebiasis--Pulmonary Complications

Abstract
In 1939 at one hospital in Durban there were 1,520 cases of amoebic dysentery. At another in 1940 there were 251 cases. Some of these cases were wrongly diagnosed as pulmonary tuberculosis. The amoebae reach the lung by direct embolism from the gut wall. 8 cases are described and differential diagnosis discussed.
