Negative Water Balances During Exposures to Low Barometric Pressures

Abstract
Exposures of rats to low barometric pressures resulted in water loss without accompanying thirst. The main factor appeal''s to be anoxia, since this loss was prevented by giving O2 instead of air to breathe and the loss occurred at high pressure if the breathing mixture was 104% O2 and 894.% N2. The actual water loss probably occurred by hyper-ventilation.
