In 1976 the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission convened a group to study the subject of functional limitations. That study group produced a rehabilitation model for functional assessment entitled the Functional Assessment Profile (F.A.P.). The 10 functional areas used for assessment and the concept of compensation are presented. The benefits of utilizing this approach when determining a client's eligibility, developing an I.W.R.P. and providing guidance and counseling services are reviewed. Alternate ways the F.A.P. can be used by counselors are discussed.
