Tissue Potassium Retention in Adrenal Insufficiency

Abstract
Soluble proteins in various exsanguinated tissues of normal and adrenal insufficient rats were taken as a measure of cell solids associated with K. The ratio millimoles K/gram soluble protein in normal tissues falls within the range 0.484-0.619 except for brain, 0.939. The ratio shows a significant rise in most tissues in adrenal insufficiency. Soluble protein/kilogram fresh tissue is quite constant in a given tissue. The concentration of soluble protein in cell water lies within the range 287-384 gm/kg in several normal tissues.
