Analytical Studies on the Active Constituents in Crude Drugs. II. : Determination of Glycyrrhizin in Pharmaceutical Preparations including Glycyrrhizae Radix by High-Speed Liquid Chromatography

Abstract

A rapid, simple and accurate high-speed liquid chromatographic procedure was established for the quantitative determination of glycyrrhizin in pharmaceutical preparations including Glycyrrhiza radix. Glycyrrhizin, extracted from simple pharmaceutical preparations, was determined under the same conditions. Glycyrrhizin in compound pharmaceutical preparations containing multiple components was separated on Permaphase AAX column with a mobile phase of 50% ethanol in phosphate buffer (pH 5.2)-0.005 M NaClO4 solution at 45.degree.. In most preparations, good recovery was obtained, but in a few, sufficient recovery was not obtained becuase of incomplete extraction.
