Abstract
The characteristic birefringence pattern of kink bands in AgCl crystals is described and the internal (elastic) strains are calculated from photoelastic measurements. A kink band model is presented which takes into account second-order elastic strains and core effects associated with tilt-wall arrays of edge dislocations. Dislocation pinning at a kink band is discussed in terms of interactions between dislocations of primary and secondary glide systems.
