Abstract
An attempt was made to determine whether ethylsulphuric acid was formed in the chick embryo as a process of detoxication and eliminated in the allantoic fluid. Such a process apparently takes place. Chemical analysis of the glair, yolk, embryo, amniotic and allantoic fluid showed that the ethylsulphuric acid content of the embryo (after the 12th day) remained relatively constant, while the content of the allantoic fluid was greater than that of the embryo and progressively increased. Administration of benzoic acid to incu-bated eggs (after 9th day) is followed by synthesis of ornithuric acid, which is excreted in the allantoic fluid.
