Abstract
The paper discusses the motion of polymer molecules in the solid state at a level analogous to the Einstein treatment of a crystalline solid. It is argued that in a first approximation any particular molecule will be entrapped by its neighbours so that it drifts around a mean position. The size of this enclosing tube is calculated as is the dynamics of the molecule in the tube, and hence the dynamical correlation functions of the system. Keywords
