A recycling or circulating gas chromatograph for use in the analytical, rather than the preparative field, is described. Examples of programming column length by recycling, and of recycling and heartcutting on a quantitative basis are illustrated. By recycling components through a basic column length, peak resolution is achieved, which is comparable with peak resolution obtained when using longer columns.
