Genetic Changes in Populations Under Irradiation

Abstract
An introductory account is given of exptl. populations of Drosophila melanogaster under different conditions of acute and chronic irradiation. Two types of data are given: (1) chromosomal content of the population in terms of lethals, semilethals, and viability modifiers; (2) estimates of the adaptive values of the populations based on viabilities of random heterozygotes. The discussion deals with the establishment within populations of coordinated genetic systems and the bearing this process has on irradiated populations generally.
