A review of hydrothermal reactions in the system CaO - SiO2 - H2O

Abstract
Summary: Hydrothermal studies in the lime-silica-water system contribute to the understanding of the chemistry of Portland cement. The investigations which have been made are reriewed. The properties of the naturally occurring and artificial compounds are described, tables of optical data and diagrams of X-ray powder data being given. The conditions of formation of each compound are discussed and the general outlines of the phase diagram are suggested.
