Abstract
A Monte Carlo calculation of the Feynman-Cohen excitation spectrum is performed for helium confined to two dimensions. No approximations are used. Results for several different areal densities are compared with an exactly similar calculation in three dimensions. Among other results the roton gap is found to be significantly lower at corresponding densities in two dimensions, much smaller than previous estimates, and in substantial agreement with experiment. Keywords
