Abstract
The diagnosis of chronic hepatitis in a patient with protracted fatigability and signs of liver disease developing insidiously, or after acute hepatitis, is not controversial if results of biochemical and serologic tests are abnormal and if a liver biopsy shows compatible features. The etiology may be viral hepatitis, as evidenced by an antecedent attack of acute icteric hepatitis or by persistence of Australia antigen, or it may be an unknown factor.The question that arises is the importance of this diagnosis in the life of the patient.
