Abstract
With the growing population of older adults, healthcare providers must become aware of the unique manifestations of alcoholism exhibited by this population. There are many barriers that prevent an older adult with alcoholism from seeking or receiving help. Identification of factors that influence the diagnosis of alcoholism in the elderly and an awareness of referral barriers can help professionals in developing strategies and interventions that enhance and facilitate recovery. Keywords
