Further Studies on the Practical Classification of the Monilias

Abstract
The method of classification of the Candida spp. previously described from the Duke Hospital laboratory has been applied to 534 strains of non-ascosporogenous mycelium-producing yeast-like fungi. Of 461 freshly isolated strains 457 were easily identified and were typical of the 6 commonest spp. of Candida. 73 named cultures were examined by the same method: 46 of them were identified as Candida spp., agreeing in all details when pure typical colonies were obtained by repeated platings on blood agar; 16 strains were tentatively classified as members of these spp. but differed from typical strains in some one detail; 4 strains were apparently mislabeled; and 8 cultures representing 3 strains of C. macedoniensis, 2 strains of C. aldoi, and 3 strains of C. guilliermondi were obviously different spp. from those encountered in the 461 freshly isolated strains.
