HEPATIC GAMMASCANNING AS AN AID IN THE MANAGEMENT OF PATIENTS WITH MALIGNANT LYMPHOMAS

Abstract
Scintillation scanning of the liver by I131 rose bengal is a useful adjunctive procedure for determining the presence or absence of hepatic involvement by malignant lymphoma. The most common pattern of hepatic involvement, in a limited review of patients with Stage II or Stage HI lymphomatous disease, appears to be a diffuse, patchy infiltration. Serial scans are useful for following the resolution and control of lymphomatous hepatic involvement. There does not appear to be any specific correlation between the liver scans and liver function tests. Hepatic scintiscans may aid in detecting the presence of nonmalignant parenchymatous liver disease in patients with lympho-mas.
