Abstract
As expected, the article on "Treatment of Chronic Stable Angina" by Dr. Murphy and his colleagues in the Veterans Administration Cooperative Study, which appeared in the September 22 issue of the Journal along with Dr. Braunwald's editorial ("Coronary-Artery Surgery at the Crossroads"), attracted unusual interest. The vigorous discussion that it stimulated has been given full public exposure in the media.Because the question is so important, we are breaking precedent by devoting a special correspondence section to this topic.
