Abstract
The splitting of the magnetic dipole states in due to the admixture of two-particle, two-hole configurations is calculated. The qualitative structure of a one-particle, onehole calculation remains but about 30% of the strength is distributed over many levels above 8 MeV. The influence of the spin-dependent part of the interaction on the results is critically discussed.
