Abstract
Previous results are extended to obtain the ionization potential of an arbitrary atom in an arbitrarily polarized single-mode steady-state laser. The results come from energy conservation and ideas associated with the ponderomotive potential. They are used to discuss the width of the energy distribution of electrons obtained from multiphoton ionization. Keywords
