Nuclear Orientation ofNd147

Abstract
Neodymium-147 was aligned and polarized at low temperatures in a neodymium ethylsulfate lattice. A saturation correction for susceptibility was verified. The effect of nondiagonal interactions on nuclear orientation was illustrated. Spin assignments of 52+, 32+, 52+, and 52+ were made for the excited states of Pm147 at 91, 410, 531, and 686 kev, respectively. Mixing ratios were obtained for six mixed γ rays in Pm147. The magnitude of the amplitude mixing ratio δ(E2M1) was found to be approximately proportional to γ-ray energy. Evidence was obtained that the β branches with end points at 0.23, 0.38, and 0.81 Mev are mostly of the L=0 type.
