Surveillance for Determinants of Population Health

Abstract
This chapter describes the application of specific principles to the practice of surveillance of health determinants, including risk behaviors, exposures, and social determinants of health. It describes an ecological or determinants approach to health production, identifies important health determinants, enumerates guiding principles and basic approaches for monitoring these determinants, and describes practical applications of these principles to their surveillance. The chapter concludes with recommendations for improving surveillance for health determinants.
