A technique for ventilation and simultaneous bronchography of isolated lungs was developed and has been used on five human lungs obtained at autopsy. The behavior of these lungs was similar to that observed in clinical ventilation tests in life. Abnormal narrowing of a dynamic nature was demonstrated in medium-sized airways during forced expiration in the three lungs from patients with advanced emphysema.
