THE EFFECT OF ONE BORDER IN THE VISUAL FIELD UPON THE THRESHOLD OF ANOTHER

Abstract
A number of phenomena which have been attributed to the effect of the brightness of surroundings on the brightness-threshold-test-object were studied and found to depend on the presence of borders in the vicinity of the test object. When one border acts on the side of another, it raises its threshold; when it acts on the end the threshold is lowered. A border placed between 2 others prevents them from affecting each other.
