Meanings of combat and the development of posttraumatic stress disorder

Abstract
The concept of meanings of combat was used to explain combat veterans'' different reactions to war experiences, particularly the development of a posttraumatic stress disorder after combat. Four case reports were presented to illustrate some of the different meanings of combat and the ways such meanings relate to stress disorder and soldier''s adaptation before, during and after combat.
