Studies in the biochemistry of micro-organisms

Abstract
[long dash]Luteic acid is elaborated by P. luteum grown in a synthetic medium containing fructose, galactose, mannose, xylose, arabinose or glycerol as sole source of C; succinic and citric acid substrates gave indications of a similar product. Since luteic acid yields malonic acid and glucose on acid hydrolysis, these results show that P. luteum converts the hexoses fructose, galactose and mannose, the pentoses xylose and arabinose, and other C compounds, into glucose.
