Cryptosporidiosis in Tourists Returning from the Caribbean

Abstract
To the Editor: Using a modified cold Kinyoun acid-fast staining procedure,1 we diagnosed cryptosporidiosis in four persons who had returned to the United States from a seven-day vacation on the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia. All four reported feeling feverish, and two had temperatures of 101°F (38.3°C). All had watery diarrhea, with three to six stools per day, that lasted from 5 to 22 days; their symptoms began between 4 and 9 days after they arrived on the island.
