Strain rate effects in microparticle impact

Abstract
Very short impact durations and correspondingly high strain rates are shown to be associated with the normal impact of small spheres on to metal targets. This may explain the size effects observed in microparticle impact and in the erosion of metals by solid particles.Keywords
