Effects of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin and Human Menopausal Gonadotropin (Pergonal) in Males with Oligospermia

Abstract

Eight oligospermic males were treated with human chorionic gonadotropin and human menopausal gonadotropin. The effects of this treatment on steroid excretion and testicular function were evaluated by comparison with pretreatment excretion values, sperm counts and testicular biopsies. It was found that, while enhanced steroid excretion of testosterone conjugates, total estrogen and 11-deoxy-17-ketosteroids occurred, no consistent beneficial effects in spermatogenesis were produced.
