Abstract
The directional correlations of four γγ cascades in Pr143 fed from the decay of Ce143 have been studied. The correlation functions for the 293-57, 232-493, 591-293, and the 668-57-keV cascades are found to be: W(θ29357)=1+(0.112±0.009)P2(cosθ), W(θ232493)=1(0.176±0.008)P2(cosθ)(0.001±0.012)P4(cosθ), W(θ591293)=1+(0.146±0.015)P2(cosθ)+(0.003±0.026)P4(cosθ), and W(θ66857)=1+(0.063±0.018)P2(cosθ), respectively. Knowing the spin of the ground state of Pr143 as 72+ and the recently measured spin of the ground state of Ce143 as 32, and from the analysis of the angular-correlation results combined with the logft values of β transitions from Ce143, the levels of Pr143 have been assigned spins and parities as follows: ground state, 72+; 57 keV, 52+; 351 keV, 32+; 493 keV, 72+; 725 keV, 52+; 942 keV, 32+ or 52+; 1160 keV, ½+, 32+, or 52+; and 1395 keV, 32 or 52.
