Regional Differences in the Polypeptide Composition of Chick Lens Intracellular Matrix

Abstract
Analysis of the chick lens intracellular matrix by SDS polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis revealed that the cortical urea-soluble protein is characterized by a high content of non-crystallin polypeptides, especially those of molecular weights of 85,000, 49,000 and 41,000 daltons. The nuclear urea-soluble fraction (USF) consists mainly of δ- and α-crystallins, and of a polypeptide of 41,000 daltons molecular weight. The 11- and 17-day-old embryonic USF is enriched in δ-crystallin and the polypeptide of molecular weight 49,000 daltons.
