GROUP 1, 1935-1936 In 1935 and 1936 eleven patients with meningitis caused by hemolytic streptococci were treated in the Division of Contagious Diseases, City Hospital, Cleveland. Ten of these patients died. Seven other patients with streptococcic meningitis who died during this period are not considered in this report because either the streptococci found were nonhemolytic (two cases) or the organisms were not grown on blood agar and hemolysis had not been demonstrated (five cases). The ages of these patients ranged from 4 weeks to 51 years; two were adults and nine were children from 4 weeks to 6 years of age. Two patients were under 1 year of age; two were 4, two were 5, three were 6, one was 23 and one was 51 years old.
