Abstract
The fact is emphasized that thyroid disease may manifest itself in many ways and that one phase of extreme toxicity may present a picture of extreme apathy, cachexia, and finally prostration. This type of case responds satisfactorily to the usual preoperative management of hyperthyroidism, namely Lugol"s soln. or thiouracil, supplemented with supportive therapy. Two such cases were followed throughout their course, including bilateral subtotal thyroidectomy. Their ultimate improvement has been gratifying. Keywords
