Glucose Clamp Experiments With Electrochemical Biosensors

Abstract
Glucose, lactate and potassium ions have been continuously measured in whole blood using two extracorporeal electrochemical biosensors and a new flow through potassium electrode using the glucose clamp technique. Experiments were carried out with a properly modified endocrine artificial pancreas “Betalike” by connecting this instrument in series with the lactate and potassium probes. the results showed that it is possible to monitor all three metabolites with accuracy and precision, allowing an improved control in diabetes care.
