Serum Alpha1-Fetoglobulin with Gastric and Prostatic Carcinomas

Abstract
THE presence of serum alpha1-fetoglobulin in adults is accepted as diagnostic of primary hepatoma or embryonal testicular tumor.1 Recently, we encountered a patient with gastric and prostatic carcinomas and serum alpha1-fetoglobulin.Case ReportA 77-year-old Negro had been hospitalized in 1968 for "ulcers." In December, 1970, suprapubic prostatectomy was performed to relieve benign prostatic enlargement. When he was rehospitalized in April, 1971, for recurrent abdominal pain and weight loss, a firm epigastric mass, prostatic enlargement and liver spanning 16 cm were found.The total serum bilirubin was 0.8 mg per 100 ml, and the alkaline phosphatase . . .
