Abstract
It is evident that elementary teachers DO want to improve their teanching of arithmetic. A questionnnaire sent to a cross section of the schools in California, Idaho, and Oregon showed 85.4 per cent of those responding to belive that teachers should have more training in the use of manipulative divices in the teaching of arithmetic. Over 36 per cent of these thought the colleges shuuld teach this phase of methods in workshops. And 41.8 per cent believe the training slould be received in workshops combined with training elwhere.1
