Purification and Quantitative Determination of Platelet Factor 3

Abstract
Methods are described for the purification of platelet factor 3 from bovine platelets. The yield is about 65% and about 96% of the tyrosine, N, and carbohydrate of the platelets are removed. All of the other known factors concerned with blood coagulation are removed. The activity can be dispersed in physiological saline solutions to give a stable product that can be preserved in a deep freeze. The saline suspension is stable at 56[degree]C. Purified prothrombin activates when this product, serum Ac-globulin, C ions and one of the following are present: platelet cofactor I (anti-hemophilic factor), platelet cofactor II (plasma thromboplastin component (PTC), histamine or certain antihistamine compounds.
