Abstract
The validity and reproducibility of 2 experimental methods of sex and age determination of the red fox are analyzed. The sex determination is made by study of the sexual chromatin (Barr body) on an impression slide of Ammon''s horn stained with Harris'' hematoxylin. The age determination is made by counting the cementum lines on lower canine teeth sections decalcified and stained with Meyer''s hemalun. Each of the proposed methods offers a satisfactory accuracy for use in demographic studies of the red fox.
