A Method for Removal of Adult S. mansoni from Experimentally Infected Rabbits

Abstract

After intraven. or intracardial injn. of 100 mg. of heparin the rabbit is sacrificed. The portal vein is exposed and blood is aspirated with a 50-ml. syringe attached to an 18-gauge needled pointed towards the liver. The worms (Schistosoma mansoni) will flow in with the blood. The entire liver may then be removed and perfused through the hepatic vein yielding additional worms.
