A controlled clinical trial of alpha methyl dopa in Parkinsonian tremor

Abstract
Alpha methyl dopa given orally in a dose of 1 to 1.5 g/day for one week was effective in diminishing Parkinsonian tremor in the majority of patients treated. The effect on blood pressure was negligible while drowsiness and depression were the main side-effects. These initital observations justify a long-term trial which would be necessary for a final assessment of the drug''s therapeutic usefulness.
