THE COLLOID OSMOTIC PRESSURE OF DOG BLOOD AND LYMPH

Abstract
In 9 dogs the colloid osmotic pressure of the blood was 334-466 mm. of water; of cervical lymph, 131-195 mm.; of thoracic duct lymph, 138-344 mm. The colloid osmotic pressure of lymph per gm. protein was higher than blood, probably owing to a higher proportion of serum albumin in lymph than in blood. The "effective osmotic pressure" for returning water to the blood capillaries is the difference between the colloid osmotic pressure of the blood and the lymph from the area under observation.
