Infrared Spectra of Alkoxyboranes. III. Di- and Triethoxyboranes

Abstract
Frequency assignments are made for the infrared spectra of gaseous triethoxyborane, diethoxyborane, and diethoxyborane‐d. A new experimental technique was applied in an effort to detect transitory intermediates in the alcoholysis of diborane; no monoethoxyborane was detected. When alcohol was added to diborane, triethoxyborane appeared only after all diborane had been converted to diethoxyborane. Transfer of ethoxy groups between boron atoms is slow, while hydrogen exchange is rapid.
